About - for Parents

The Respect in Sport Parent Program is one-of-a-kind on-line training to enhance a parent or guardian's knowledge about their child or youth's involvement in sport and activities. Created at the request of coaches, officials and even parents themselves, the program provides insight into "behavioural traps" even the best parents can fall into that diminish the enjoyment of the activity for all, and frequently lead to the child or youth leaving the activity all together.
Respect in Sport is an ideal solution for organizations looking for cost-effective, consistent and empowering programs which can easily be delivered to your entire membership.
Respect in Sport for Parents was founded on the following beliefs:
- Creating a safe and fun environment for all children taking part in any activity should be the #1 priority
- 99% of parents are good people wanting to do the right thing
- Many sport parents do not feel empowered to say anything or intervene on behalf of the coach or the leader when another parent is out-of-control
- Even the best parents don't always recognize when their own behaviour is inappropriate
- All children and youth should leave the game, training or activity with a positive self-image
- Empowering training, not a stick, is the key to creating a values-based environment
- Training must be simple, convenient, easy to access, and affordable
- All sporting and community organizations should be able to use one consistent solution to educate parents on this sensitive and important topic
Respect in Sport programs use innovative instructional design techniques to provide an internet-based training experience that is simple, to the point and captivating for the learner. It offers full database capabilities for user access and certification and is designed to be widely accessible for all users regardless of location or speed of the internet connection. In contrast to traditional classroom training, Respect in Sport takes less than half the time, is available at the users’ convenience and gives a consistent, up to date message on behalf of the host organization.
